FERINTOSH is an all-star
trio of traditional musicians, featuring David Greenberg
on fiddle, Abby Newton on cello and Kim Robertson on
Celtic harp. Their sound has been described as "chamber
folk" because it combines the soulfulness and energy
of traditional Scottish music with the precision and
nuance of Baroque music. FERINTOSH presents vibrant
renditions of the music that the kings and tradesmen
alike heard in centuries past, from poignant aires to
high spirited strathspeys and reels.
Selections include:Ye Banks and Braes, Tullochgorum, The Langour of Love, Simon Fraser of the Highlands, and more.
"Inspired by the enduring
grace, vitality and soulfulness of traditional Scottish
music, Abby packed up her cello and crossed the Atlantic
in search ot the castles, churches and caves that helped
nurture the melodies centuries ago. The result, not
surprisingly, is a richly resonate and atmospheric recording.
But as John Purser writes in the liner notes, it's something
more. It's an opportunity 'not only to appreciate these
tunes in their earliest clothing and proper harmonies,
but to appreciate the cello as a wonderful melody instrument
in its own right." The Washington Post (Mike Joyce)
